CIVIL RIGHTS

Civil
rights cases, both civil and criminal, have been an important
focus of our practice for over a decade.
In criminal
cases, we have assisted prosecutors on police abuse and hate
crimes cases, conducting research and helping trial teams grapple
with the conflicting emotions that many jurors feel when asked
to judge the actions of law enforcement personnel. Our work
has included the successful federal prosecution by the Department
of Justice, Civil Rights Division, of the police officers accused
of violating the rights of Rodney King. In addition, we have
assisted in the prosecution of recent civil rights cases involving
charges of murder by the Klan. On the civil side, plaintiffs
in police misconduct cases seek out Bonora D’Andrea for
our wealth of experience with these challenging cases.
Our civil
rights experience also includes work for plaintiffs in disability
access cases and employment cases involving race, age and sex
discrimination as well as sexual harassment. Inevitably, social
stereotypes come into play as jurors evaluate these claims.
The psychological expertise at Bonora D’Andrea is available
to attorneys striving to create an empathic portrait of the plaintiff
that cuts through juror bias.
